An aging facility in a region enjoying a locally driven tourism revival meant Oatlands Aquatic Centre received a much needed overhaul. Oatlands was originally an outdoor pool, therefore only getting use for 3-4 months of the year, but included in the rejuvenation was the decision to incorporate an indoor facility with a 6 lane 25m lap pool, learn-to-swim pool and an aquatic play area for the kids.
While there was a cosmetic facelift, a lot of the major works happened behind the scenes to include sophisticated equipment to allow for remote monitoring, reduce maintenance, and ease of operation. An exciting opportunity also presented itself in the recycling of waste water from the aquatic centre. Oatlands regularly experiences drought and fires through the summer and the Southern Midlands District Council seized the opportunity to greater greater fire resilience in the community. A tank farm was created to hold for times of emergency 500,000L of treated waste water. Hydrilla assisted in the tank farm set up with superior hydraulic systems.
