Located in Felixstow in Adelaide’s eastern suburbs, the Payneham Memorial Swimming Centre has been a much-loved community facility for generations. Originally constructed in 1968, the centre has a long history of providing a place for swimming, recreation and community connection. After more than five decades of service, the ageing facility was ready for a significant transformation to meet the changing expectations and needs of the local community.

Now completely reimagined, the Payneham Memorial Swimming Centre has been transformed from a traditional seasonal swimming pool into a modern, state-of-the-art aquatic and recreational destination designed to attract visitors from across Adelaide’s eastern region.

The new centre features three pools: a 10-lane, 50m outdoor Olympic-sized pool, an 8-lane, 25m indoor pool and an 11m x 20m indoor learner pool. Beyond swimming, the redevelopment introduces a zero-depth waterplay area and a striking 14-metre-high tower featuring two waterslides, creating an impressive aquatic environment for lap swimming, learn-to-swim programs, recreation and family leisure.

The result is more than a new swimming centre. It is a complete transformation of a facility that has served its community for more than half a century — delivering sophisticated aquatic infrastructure, year-round opportunities and an exciting new destination for Adelaide’s eastern suburbs.
