The Purruna Spencer Newton Centre‘s 25m and learn-to-swim pools are more than just standard swimming facilities. Our attention to detail and the use of modern technology have created a stunning new aquatics facility.

Extensive community consultation on its existing infrastructure saw Scotch College recognise the urgent need for a new sports facility, with a vision that it will go beyond the conventional pool and gym setup. To bring this vision to life, we created stunning and functional pools that offer imposing views of the Adelaide CBD skyline and beyond.

Construction of this project wasn’t without its challenges. A particularly miserable winter season, complete with relentless rain made for a very muddy and wet site- not ideal conditions for laying and curing concrete and pipework. Once inside, work on the plantroom couldn’t commence until the level was built, delaying the more technical aspects of our work.

An interesting feature included in the water treatment plant for Purruna Spencer Newton Centre is the incorporation of an Evoqua UVT monitors. This is uncommon in commercial swimming pools but works to harness the disinfection power of UV to kill bacteria , mold and viruses in water without the need for chemicals.

Hydrilla entered Purruna Spencer Newton Centre into the 2023 Swimming Pool and Spa Association Awards for Excellence. The work was recognised by industry peers and achieved:

• Gold Winner –  Commercial Pool over $1 million – South Australia
• Finalist – Commercial Pool over $1 million – National
