Whyalla Recreation Centre
Whyalla- South Australia
A jewel on the coast of the Eyre Peninsula, Whyalla’s history dates back long before the discovery of Iron Ore in the mid 1800’s. Now home to around 22,000 people and while a coastal town, it’s Recreation Centre is a community hub comprised of an indoor stadium for netball, cricket and basketball, a 24-7 gym and an aquatics facility featuring a 25m lap pool, leisure pool with beach entry and water features, and a spa pool.
In recent years, the pools had fallen behind SA Health regulations for water turn over. Furthermore, the spa pool had been out of commission for almost 4 years due to cracked pipework.

Left to right: New chemical controllers in the plantroom, Mick Coulthard, a senior plumber and site manager assessing a water feature, the spa pool, filled with water for the first time in 4 years.
Our team’s focus in this renovation was getting critical infrastructure updated and meeting, if not exceeding SA Health’s commercial swimming pool regulations. The vast majority of work was in the plantroom, with new sand filters installed for the 25m lap pool and extensive hydraulics works completed to return the spa to use.
