Hydrilla was announced as the winner of two Gold awards at a virtual awards ceremony held on Friday 3rd September 2021 for the Swimming Pool and Spa Association’s National Awards for Excellence. The Awards cap off a stellar awards season for us where our work was acknowledged with 5 x Gold and 2 X Highly Commended awards at the South Australian division of the awards announced earlier in the year.

National Gold Winner – Commercial Pool up to $1,000,000

The luxurious SkyCity pool and Spa located on the podium level leisure deck of the recently redeveloped SkyCity Adelaide’s Hotel ‘EOS’ was completed in 2020 in collaboration with the project’s builder, Hansen Yuncken. Though slightly biased, we believe the pool is the jewel in the crown of the project with its bold sweeping curves and stunning white mosaic tiles allowing guests uninterrupted views of the riverbank precinct. Our team not only created this beautiful pool and spa structure but also built the pool operating plant and water treatment systems which keep the pool water pristine and safe for guests. The Commercial operating system for the pool was a national finalist in the Commercial Systems category after winning gold at the South Australian awards.

“The calibre of finalists for the awards this year was outstanding, the other National finalists (for this category) from Victoria and the ACT were both incredible pools, so there wasn’t an obvious winner. Having our work at SkyCity showcased on the national stage has been such an unexpected and welcomed achievement for our team and acknowledges the complex work that is required in commercial pool construction.” Amanda Stephenson – Corporate Service Manager.

National Gold Winner – Community Project

The Community Project Category is only in its second year at the SPASA awards and we are thrilled to have bought the national gold award back to South Australia both years so far. The category seeks to acknowledge pools, products or services which promote Social Responsibility in the pool and spa industry and we felt that the Boandik Community Wellness Centre’s Hydrotherapy embodied the community spirit in more ways than one.

“The passion the Boandik community had to build a Hydrotherapy pool in their community was obvious to our team and we really enjoyed working on this project with them to deliver such a high-quality project” explains Amanda “We entered the pool into the 2020 SPASA awards and achieved a High Commendation in a Commercial Construction category, which was a great result in itself, but our staff were disappointed for all the families and individuals who had raised funds to make this facility possible”

The SPASA awards allow pools to be re-entered into the awards for 3 years after commissioning, provided that they are entered into a new category. “The pool is so loved by the people managing and using it and it has made a significant impact on the health and wellbeing of those people that we wanted to win something for them, and the Community Project Category felt like a great fit”.

We were a finalist in several other categories at the 2021 National SPASA awards including, Commercial Project of the Year, Commercial System, and Marketing Campaign.
