Scottsdale Aquatic Centre
Scottsdale – Tasmania
Scottsdale Aquatic Centre in the Dorset region of northeast Tasmania is one of only two public swimming pools. Since our work redeveloping the site, it now boasts Tasmania’s largest splash park, as well as a brand new 8-lane, 25m lap pool, complete with starting blocks, lane ropes, backstroke flags, grab rails and disability access, a learn to swim pool with disability access ramp, and a leisure pool with varying depths.

The Scottsdale Aquatic Centre redevelopment was completed in time for the summer season of 2021/2022, but discussions around the works had been in discussion since at least 2015. The main challenges included differing COVID-19 restrictions and the brisk temperature during winter. As our team are based in South Australia, keeping up with the different rules and regulations in Tasmania was a job in itself, and the decision was made to keep two of our team in Tasmania for longer than is typical with an interstate project- 3 months. The challenge with the winter temperatures, which are much lower than in South Australia, was around the glue and grout for the tiling curing. As they need adequate temperature, the team had to get crafty- erecting a marque over where they were working and hiring industrial heaters to heat the enclosed marque. All in a days work.
